My Story
I grew up with a love of music, sports, camping, and books. I still love those things, but they’ve all changed for me. My enjoyment of music transitioned from playing in bands and orchestras and ensembles and as a soloist on stage to watching my kids and grandkids perform. And listening to music? I no longer go to the library hoping to find my favorite symphony on a scratched LP; now I watch performances from all over the world in high-definition audio and video any time I want. I love it.
Sports? I used to play any sport they’d let a girl play. But now I just enjoy watching. If I ventured onto a baseball field, I would probably go into autopilot and try to slide into home plate. Something would break, and it wouldn’t be the plate.
Ah, and camping. I love a campfire by the river, and a night in a sleeping bag. But those nights are no longer in a tent, requiring a hike to the outhouse. We have transitioned to a self-contained camper van, and we can pack up and camp at a different river every night. I really enjoy road trips.
Books have always been central. I grew up in a family of readers, and regular trips to the old downtown library were a normal part of life. Now I have e-books, audio books, and books delivered to my front porch! I’m thankful to live in this time.
I have been married to my husband for 45 years, and we have two sons and five grandchildren. Time with this precious family is my great joy, whether it’s sharing books or music or activities or trips, or just hanging out over pizza.
But the biggest thing that has changed since my childhood is that now I know what my life is about. It’s not just about playing piano or reading the latest bestseller or finding the best camp spot or even spending time with family. None of those come close to my longing to serve Jesus with all that I have. And He has given me the desire to see the hearts of women restored to what they were created to be. I have asked Him for twenty more years of ministering to women!
